Careers

Health safety and welfare

At Cotswold Archaeology we take our responsibility for employee welfare and safety very seriously, and we have an excellent track record underlined by our CHAS and SIPP accreditations.

Understanding legislation

We have detailed policies and procedures for both our offices and fieldwork, which are regularly reviewed and audited, and we involve staff at all levels through Health & Safety Committees. We are supported by our consultants – Bibby CAS – who keep us up to date with legislation and best practice, and provide advice on a 24/7 basis.

Personal protection

Full Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is provided including boots, helmet, goggles, hi-vis vests and roadcoats, waterproofs and wellies. Other equipment such as ear defenders and face masks are provided as and when identified as appropriate by project specific risk assessments.

Assessing risk

Risk assessments are carried out for every project and site, and full induction is provided to all staff. Regular training is provided in aspects ranging from Manual Handling to Asbestos Awareness. All staff carry the required industry qualifications for their roles and all site staff at supervisor level and above are first aid qualified.

Road safety

We recognise that driving to and from site poses one of the biggest risks to staff safety, and take all appropriate action to minimise the risks. Our Safe Driving Policy includes the provision of suitable and well maintained vehicles, the assessment of driver competence and additional training where required eg SAFED, 4×4, and very clear guidelines and information provided to all drivers.
